Senior Programs
About the Senior Program
This 40+ year-old program serves over 1,000 multilingual residents annually. Residents age 60 and over and adults of any age with disabilities can access food pantry services, health and wellness programs, and a wide range of referrals for qualifying City services. Others who live in and around Bernal Heights can drop in to either of our two sites, Cortland Avenue or Excelsior, for classes of interest and reliable information and resources. Our services are offered in English, Spanish, Mandarin and Cantonese, with regular opportunities to gauge community needs and interests and initiate new program ideas based on feedback.
The Senior Program is one of our longest-standing initiatives, funded by the City of San Francisco’s Department of Disability and Aging Services.
Food Assistance Program
Weekly: Through our Food Pantry Program any residents needing support with groceries can access BHNC food pantry once per week at no cost. We operate four weekly food pantries in partnership with San Francisco Marin Food Bank, distributing fresh fruits, vegetables, grains, protein, and other pantry items.
Monthly: Through our Food Box Program seniors age 60 and over who qualify may receive a food box as part of the federal Commodity Supplemental Food Program at our Excelsior and Cortland Senior Centers.
